This might sound obvious but its worth mentioning. 'Electrical Spikes' in domestic power supply are very common. This is when the voltage supplied to a home is inconsistent. The reason I do is because if you check the box many of the said surge protectors come with free insurance covering many thousands of pounds. And if you check your home insurance policy you might find that lightning strike is covered on the buildings but NOT the contents policy.
