Samsung Galaxy Tab

The news and stories of the Samsung Galaxy Tab has been abuzz since early 2010. As Samsung released smart phones installed with the Android operating system, it was expected that the tablet version of this line up will surely be impressive. First generation tablets are starting to go down in the local market, but will the new Samsung Galaxy Tab stream in the competition?

This tablet is similar to both a smart phone and a laptop but with few twists. The 7-inch tablet device can be held in one hand without being bulky. Its 7- inch display is made by gorilla glass, so it is essential to keep it protected every time. It approximately weighs 375 grams making it lighter and smaller than other tablet brand models. Its design can be best described as solid, clean and sleek. The back is made out of plastic.

This tablet is not a phone but its applications and connectivity enables communication through the internet. Phone calls and SMS can be supported in this model blurring the lines between tablet and smartphone.

With the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G, you have a lot of choices to suit your wireless needs. Following the previous models of the Galaxy line up, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is operated by the Android 2.2 OS also known as Froyo. This means the capability to browse popular websites that can’t be opened in smart phones.

Unlike an ordinary tablet, this tab can run two to three applications at the same time enabling multitasking. Because of its operating system, third party applications are downloadable and can be installed immediately. Software applications like games, health-related apps, and more can be searched in the net. Moreover, playing games and watching videos in the Samsung Galaxy Tab is an enjoyable feat. You can use it for hours with the high definition graphics in the screen.

The audio is good, too. There is built-in music player software which you can easily customize with your favorite songs. The network connection speed is respectable depending upon your location. It has two built-in cameras, one in the front which is perfect for conferences and video calls; the other camera is located at the upper left back of the tab. The front camera has a basic 1.3 megapixels while the back has 3 megapixels, it can serve as a basic camera.

The battery life is quite impressive for a tablet. It can last up to 6 hours or even a day depending on its usage. However, there are seldom momentarily lags but are not that noticeable.

For a device that’s situated between a laptop and a smart phone, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is arguably the best Android based device that sits in the sub-niche between smartphone and full-size tablet.
